The flower closes at night and in cold windy weather, and opens again in the morning, but may remain closed if it is cloudy weather. Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata) is a flowering plant in the vervain family, Verbenaceae. It is a herb with opposite, simple leaves which have double-serrate margins, borne on stiffly erect, branching square stems. The purple flowers appear in summer. Flowers are of an unusual structure, large, regular, bisexual, 5-membered, are found in most cases in suprachromic or bococcus inflorescences, while they seem to be solitary, since they are surrounded by rather large bracts at the base.
